The Chopped Salad Sandwich

Ingredients

  • 1 large handful iceberg lettuce roughly chopped
  • 4-5 slices tomato
  • 1 chargrilled red pepper sliced from jar
  • 5-6 thin slices red onion
  • 1 large dollop mayo
  • 1 tbsp favourite chili relish
  • 3-4 slices Hellers garlic and paprika salami
  • 3-4 slices Hellers shaved ham
  • 3 slices cheese we recommend havarti or swiss
  • salt and pepper
  • olive oil
  • 1/3 ciabatta loaf sliced through but still attached on one side
  • Optional - add some freshly chopped basil leaves
  • Note: you can use baguette, bagels or croissants - get adventurous and try different variations!

Method

  1. Onto a large chopping board place all the ingredients including garlic and paprika salami in order on top of each other in a large somewhat messy pile - except the ciabatta
  2. Using a large knife begin chopping across the ingredients and then back the other way. Continue doing this and scrapping the sides back into the middle until you have fairly small chopped consistency. Using the knife toss and blend the chopped salad mix over until the mayo has thoroughly combined
  3. Now grab the ciabatta loaf and place the cut side of the top half onto the salad, using a spatula scrap the salad onto the bread and flip it over. Add any leftover salad to the roll and fold together. Cut in half and make sure you eat it with a plate... it can get a wee bit messy...but its worth it!
