The Hellers story

The Hellers family tradition goes way, way back to the 1880s when gold was aplenty, and miners needed to be fed.

That’s where Gorg Heller came in. Emigrating from Germany, he supplied the gold miners with top quality smallgoods from his shop in Arrowtown.

Keeping the tradition going

Fast forward to 1985 when Todd Heller continued the long line of butchers by opening his very first butchery in Christchurch.

Inspired by his world travels, Todd began offering Kiwi’s flavours they’d never tried before. And they quickly fell in love with Hellers.

Since then, Hellers has continued to grow and we now supply our delicious products throughout the whole of New Zealand, from supermarkets, cafes, restaurants and more. Not to mention you’ll find us on Australian shelves, and in parts of the Pacific too!

Packaging and Sustainability

We use recycled plastic in our packaging for our Shaved & Sliced Deli Meats, Burger, Meatballs and all our Fresh Classics & Premium Sausage range.

Using recycled plastic is saving around 6 million 600ml plastic bottle equivalents from going into landfills.

Sausages for Schools

There isn’t anything quite as Kiwi as a good old-fashioned saussie sizzle fundraiser. That’s why we launched Hellers Sausages for Schools in 2012 – an initiative to help primary and intermediate schools throughout NZ fundraise for their growing needs.

So far, Sausages for Schools has raised an impressive $3.5million and donated 1.75million sausages to help schools, putting some real sizzle back into our communities.

To get free Hellers sausages for your next school fundraiser, simply fill out the enquiry form. It’s as easy as cooking one of our delicious sausages on the barbie!
