  • Non-stick fry pan or griddle
  • BBQ tongs – long handle
  • BBQ spatula – long handle

  • Sharp kitchen scissors

Different Methods

  1. Grill: Preheat oven grill on high. Remove the bacon from the pack and lay evenly across a wire rack inserted into a baking tray. You can put the bacon straight onto a baking tray if you don’t have a rack, just make sure you don’t line it with anything as it can become a fire hazard. To ensure evenly cooked and crispy bacon keep an eye on it under the grill, take out the tray once you notice certain slices are crisp on one side and others aren’t. Using tongs turn the crispy ones over and move the more undercooked pieces to the hotter areas of the tray. Repeat this process until all the bacon has been cooked to your liking on both sides under the grill. Note: remove perfectly grilled bacon onto another baking tray set at the bottom of the oven to keep warm while you wait for the rest to grill to perfection!
  2. Pan fry: Preheat fry pan or griddle pan to med-high heat Add a small amount of oil or oil-butter combination if you prefer to a frying pan. If you are using a nonstick pan or a griddle pan you won’t need any oil or butter. Note: the less fat the bacon has then the better it is to add a little fat like oil to the pan. For example, Hellers Rasher or Shoulder bacon benefits from a little oil whereas Streaky which has a higher fat content can fry quite easily without it The best method is to make sure you don’t overcrowd the pan with bacon otherwise it can end up ‘stewing’ the bacon due to the release of the brine as it cooks. So, add enough strips of bacon to cover the pan leaving a small gap in between. Fry the bacon over a med-high heat to help create the crispness but not burn the bacon. Using tongs turn the bacon over until you get the desired crispness, remove onto a tray lined with a paper towel and set aside somewhere warm. Repeat this process until all the bacon is cooked, you can use a thick paper towel to wipe out a nonstick fry pan between each batch of bacon to prevent burning patches
  3. Air Fry: Coat the air fryer basket with a little cooking oil spray then lay the bacon into the basket. You may have to cut the bacon in half if it is too long for the basket Cook 200C for 6 mins then turn them over and cook a further 6 mins until crispy
  4. BBQ: Preheat BBQ and make sure it is cleaned down with a wire brush or the flat plate is scrapped down with a spatula and wiped with a thick paper towel Once the BBQ is heated bring the temperature down to medium heat You can use either the grill or the flat plate but note the grill will cook it faster and has more opportunity for the bacon to crisp up – try both methods and see which one you prefer! Onto the grill plate - remove the bacon from the pack and lay evenly onto the BBQ grill - if you have a two ring bbq we recommend using the outer ring and then cooking the bacon in the centre of the BBQ grill away from direct heat to avoid flare ups from te fat dripping down. Using BBQ tongs or a spatula flip the bacon over once you see some slight browning from underneath - this is a quick cooking method, so it is best not to leave the bbq or get distracted. Once you are happy with the crispiness remove onto a tray lined with a paper towel and set aside somewhere warm Onto a flat plate – remove the bacon from the pack and lay evenly onto the flat plate leaving a small space between each slice to avoid overcrowding. Allow the bacon to cook for a few minutes before turning using BBQ tongs. Cook until you have crispiness perfection!
Helpful Tips: A good sharp pair of kitchen scissors are the best tool for cutting up bacon especially streaky bacon Grilling bacon on a rack on a tray under the grill is a great way to allow excess fat to run off. You can also use that fat to make dressings or add to sauces for flavour!
