Classic Reuben Sandwich
This legendary lunch recipe dates back to 1925 Omaha, created to satisfy hungry poker players. With Hellers’ flavoursome pastrami, just stack it up for a quick, delicious, and hassle-free meal!

Ingredients
- 200g pack Hellers Pastrami
- 4 slices of rye bread
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
- 1 cup sauerkraut – squeeze out excess brine
- 1 cup Thousand Island dressing + extra for serving
- Dill pickles for serving
- Butter
- Large toothpicks
Method

Preheat grill

For the sandwich build:

Combine half of the dressing with the sauerkraut

Spread the remaining dressing onto all 4 slices of bread and then place one slice of cheese onto 2 slices of bread

Onto the other 2 slices of bread pile the meat high, then add the sauerkraut and finally top with a slice of cheese. Then grill all 4 slices of bread until the cheese has melted

Assemble the top and bottom to make 2 sandwiches and butter the outside on both sides

Heat a heavy-bottomed non-stick skillet over medium-low heat. Add the sandwiches, and fry until golden about 3 minutes. Flip, and fry again until golden, another 3 minutes

To make it easier secure the sandwich with a large toothpick and pop a few dill pickles on top as you do so

Serve with extra dressing and sliced gherkins on the side
