Grilled Bratwurst, Creamy Potato Salad, Slaw

What you will need

  • 1 kg new potatoes - or use ½ potato ½ kumara
  • 6 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 3 tbsp sour cream
  • 1 tbsp grainy mustard
  • 1 tbsp wine vinegar
  • salt and pepper
  • ½ small red onion, finely chopped or use chives
  • 2 - 4 gherkins, finely chopped (optional)
  • chives, finely chopped
  • 4 - 6 cups cabbage, shredded
  • 1 apple, shredded
  • 4 tbsp chopped parsley
  • 4 tbsp pickle brine from gherkins or similar
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • ½ tsp sugar, if needed
  • 4 Hellers Classic Bratwurst
  • hot mustard to serve


  1. Creamy potato salad - Clean the potatoes, and cut any big ones down to bite size, cover with cold water and bring to the boil. Add salt and simmer until tender, then drain and cool.
  2. Mix together the remaining ingredients, then add to cooled potatoes and toss until covered. Season with salt and pepper, and a sprinkle of chives.
  3. Slaw - Mix the shredded cabbage, apple and parsley with the pickle brine and mustard. Taste and add a little sugar if it’s too sharp. All brands are different. Season to taste.
  4. To serve - Grill the bratwurst on a grill or in a fry pan for about 15 minutes or until hot. Serve with potato salad, slaw and a dollop of mustard.
