Ham off the Bone Style Reuben Sandwich w Smokey Gherkin Mayo

We have taken the classic Reuben sandwich and replaced the usual delicious Hellers pastrami [which still works well if you prefer!] with our equally delicious sliced ham off the bone range. The Smokey Gherkin Mayo used in this recipe has become known as ‘that mayo’ amongst our staff so give it a whirl it is next level good!

Spicy Smoked Ham, Sauerkraut, Swiss Cheese & Gherkin Mayo Sandwich

What you will need

  • 1 pack Hellers Ham off the Bone - any flavour works well
  • 12 slices sourdough or your favourite thick cut bread
  • 6 slices swiss cheese
  • 1.5 cups sauerkraut, liquid squeezed out
  • Smokey Gherkin Mayo:
  • 400g jar Best Foods Mayo
  • 4 dill pickled gherkins finely chopped
  • 3 tbsp dill pickle juice from jar
  • 2 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp dried dill tips
  • 1 small bunch chives finely chopped
  • ½ lemon juiced
  • ¼ cup Delmaine Manuka BBQ Sauce [more to taste]

Instructions

  1. For the mayo combine all the ingredients in a medium bowl and fold together to combine. This makes enough for 12 sandwiches but keeps well for a week or so in the fridge if you don’t feel like eating a dozen sandwiches!
  2. Place the squeezed out sauerkraut in the microwave and heat till thoroughly warm
  3. To assemble generously spread the gherkin mayo over all the pieces of sliced sourdough
  4. Layer with ham, Swiss cheese and finally top with warmed squeezed out sauerkraut. Pop the top on the sandwich and enjoy
