Schnitzel Burger

One of our favourite ways to eat schnitzel is to make it a burger! We have layered it with our delicious streaky bacon, easy caramelised onions and a touch of creamy blue cheese – but cheddar would do just as nicely…you choose!

INGREDIENTS

  • Hellers schnitzel
  • Burger buns cut in half and buttered inside top and bottom
  • Hellers streaky bacon
  • 2 white onions peeled and sliced
  • 2 sticks rosemary
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp malt vinegar
  • Sea salt
  • Creamy blue cheese crumbled
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Mayo
  • To serve: fries

METHOD

  1. Add a dash of olive oil to a fry pan over medium heat and gently fry the onions with the rosemary until tender and translucent. Add the sugar, vinegar and a dash of sea salt. Continue to cook and stir often until the onions begin to caramelise and turn a medium brown colour. Set aside
  2. Oven bake or air fry the schnitzel until thoroughly cooked
  3. Grill or fry the bacon until crispy
  4. Gently fry the buttered side down buns until golden
  5. To assemble spread mayo onto the inside top of bun and spread caramelised onions on the bottom inside bun. Top with schnitzel, more onions and a sprinkle of blue cheese. Add a lettuce leaf and top with the bun lid
  6. Serve with fries and your favourite condiments
