INGREDIENTS

  • Makes 20-24 wontons
  • 1 pack Hellers Pulled Beef
  • 3 spring onions finely chopped
  • 1 pack wonton wrappers
  • 1L High smoke point oil for frying
  • To serve:
  • BBQ sauce
  • Chilli oil
  • Spiced hot honey
  • Mayo for dipping
  • Extra chopped spring onions

METHOD

  1. Start by removing the pulled beef from the packet and place into a microwave bowl, cover with a paper towel and heat for 2 mins. Drain any excess water away and using a fork break up the beef. Fold through the bbq sauce from the packet and the chopped spring onions
  2. To make the wontons you will need a tray lined with baking paper to place the wontons on as you make them, a small bowl of cold water, a chopping board, the wrappers and a tablespoon to scoop out the mix
  3. The best way to understand how to make a wonton is to look it up as a video tutorial - especially if you have kids helping you and you want to experiment with different shapes. The most basic way is to place the wrapper onto the chopping board, place a tablespoon of filling into the centre, using your finger dip it in a water [not too much] and moisten the edges of the wrapper, then fold the wrapper in half to create a triangle, pressing the edges together to seal the filling - make sure you get any air out of the centre as you seal it. Repeat the remaining wrappers and place on the tray as you go
  4. Slowly heat the oil in a medium pot over medium heat, once you start this process do not leave the oil unattended. Make sure you have another tray lined with paper towels to place the cooked wontons on as you go.
  5. Test the oil to see if it is ready by dropping in a plain wonton wrapper - it should turn golden slowly and steadily. Once it is ready add 4-5 wontons at a time, you will need to turn them over to brown them on both sides. Remove once golden all over onto the tray and repeat with remaining wontons
  6. Sprinkle with sea salt and serve immediately with condiments and extra spring onions
